New Business License Application

Prior to receiving a Business License, the owner must apply for and receive a Certificate of Occupancy. City staff will conduct an inspection of the place of business to ensure the location and the occupancy of the location complies with all applicable provisions of the City’s Zoning Code, Building Code and all other safety codes. All businesses are required to pay the $60 inspection fee.

Although all businesses operating in Brentwood are required to obtain a Business License, some professions are not charged for a Business License in accordance with Section 605.020. These professions are considered “Exempt” businesses. The City distinguishes between various business types, which also varies how the business license fees are calculated (Section 605.200). If a business type is not found in Section 605.200, all other service occupations, merchants, manufacturers, and home occupations are subject to license fees in accordance with Section 605.1100 and is calculated based upon their gross receipt taxes.
